The 3ASH Pizzeria was a success!

Tyler Harrison, "I loved making the pizzas, mine looked like a preying mantis."

Year 3 Geordie day
On Friday 4th December, Year 3 had a GEORDIE DAY!
Since September the theme we have been studying is Our local area. So to celebrate everything we have learnt, we decided to have this very special day!
The children were involved in learning some geordie slang and trying to speak it at various points during the day, creating a geordie dictionary, looking at geordie recipes, singing some geordie songs and they were also very lucky to have a talk from a real georide miner!
The children and y3 teachers were also dressed up for the occasion, I must say that the children all looked fabulous! Thank you to all the parents who helped make their child look like a true geordie!
The children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed their geordie day and it was impressive seeing how much they children had remembered from their lessons!
Poppy Littlemore says "I enjoyed listening to the miner because he was funny."
Daniel Preece says "We learnt a song called the Blaydon races, it was very fun doing it."
Anna Ryle says "We learnt the Geordie dictionary and some of the words were funny. Some of us spoke geordie on the yard at playtime!"
The School Council meet the Major (or is it the other way round?)
On Tuesday the 8 members of the school Council spent the day at the Civic Centre finding out about the work of the elected councillors and the major. Once there they had the chance to sit in the council chamber and find out about the work of Gateshead Council. After lunch it was questions with the major before finally watching a real council meeting in operation. Not an everyday experience and one we are sure they will cherish!

Year 3 Sandcastle challenge!
Well done to all of the children in year 3 who took part in the sandcastle challenge last Friday!
You were all superstars and worked so hard on your designs and final models. The photos show how hard you worked and I'm sure all of the other staff present would agree with me how well you represented our school. I think you were all cheated out of winning, you definately deserved medals.
A big thank you for all your hard work and enthusiasm and also a huge thank you to all of the parents that came along and got their hands dirty and still smiled in the pouring rain! It is greatly appreciated!
Yr3 Trip to Whitehouse farm
On Monday 15th June year 3 visited Whitehouse farm for the full day. There was loads of different activities for the children to participate in and from the laughter anhd smiles I witnessed all day I am sure each and every child had a great time! I was very proud of every child in year 3 due to their sensible behaviour and attitude. I lady who was visiting the farm with her granddaughter commented on how well behaved and pleasant our children were. Well done year 3!
I was amazed to see how many of the children in my class were more than willing to have a snake wrapped around their necks! I think they all know they are braver than me after my reaction!
Thank you year 3, you were all superstars! Thank you also to the parent helpers who came on the trip with us, it is much appreciated!
I have not put all the photos on the website as there was far too many but if there are any you would like to see just come to see Miss Tully. I took photos of every child in 3ash who had a snake wrapped around their neck!
Diary update!
Thursday 23rd April 2009
On Tuesday after the first little chick, Calvin was born and all the children had gone home, Miss Tully and Mrs Davidson noticed one of the other chicks was struggling to get out of the shell. However, with some assistance the chick was delivered safely - this one is named Eddy and is a girl.
On Wednesday morning, the children came into find that 4 more eggs had hatched and the 4 little chicks were happily tweeting in the incubator. 3 of these chicks were fluffed up and ready to be transferred to the brooder. As the day progresssed, more and more eggs began hatching until we had a grand total of 9 healthy chicks in the brooder all fluffed up!
That evening, another chick was having difficulty getting out of the egg so once again, Miss Tully and Mrs Davidson got their hands dirty to save the little chick. They weren't sure how healthy the chick would be but on Thursday morning he was bright and chirpy in the incubator. He was then also transferred to the brooder. This means we now have a total of 10 healthy, fluffy and cute chicks tweeting away in the brooder.
They very quickly learned how to walk, peck seeds and drink water. We have 6 boys and 4 girls.
Today the children named all of the chicks - here are their names: - Calvin, Eddy, Tweety, Dave, Sunny, Tutu, Poachey, Charlie, Alex and Fluffy.
The chicks will be travelling around school next week for the different classes to have a little hold and watch the chicks play.
Let me know what you think of the chicks and if you are in year 3, what you have enjoyed most about the experience so far by commenting on the website.
Diary update
Tuesday 21st April 2009 PM
2:45pm
It was all go in 3 ash this afternoon as our first chick hatched! It was such an exciting experience for teachers and children and we were all so glad that we got to see the egg hatch!
The first born is a boy and we have chosen to call him by the number one spot in the pop charts - Calvin - Just as he was number one out of the eggs!
Diary of year 3 Chicks!
Tuesday 21st April 2009 AM
The children in year 3 are full of excitement as 12 eggs arrived yesterday and have been set up in an incubator. The eggs were 19 days old when they arrived and should hatch by 21 days - this means most eggs should have hatched by Wednesday or Thursday. We are hoping to get about 6 or 7 chicks from the eggs, any that do not hatch by Friday will be collected by a professional.
The first egg began to crack on Monday afternoon at approximately 4:15pm. This is called the "first pipping" - the eggs should hatch about 24 hours after the first pipping. This morning when they children arrived in school they discovered that 2 more of the eggs have began to crack. This means a total of 3 so far have made their first pipping. The children are hoping that at least one of the eggs will hatch fully by the end of today.
Keep checking our website for updates on the eggs!
Yr3 Invaders and Settlers day
The year 3 children and teachers have had a great time this afternoon dressing up - the costumes were wonderful! Thank you to all parents who made their child look really good for today's activities. The children have been tasting some of the Roman foods that we learned about on our trip to Bede's world. Despite the teachers best efforts to try to wind the children up by offering them stuffed doormice and snails they all seemed rather too keen! Surprisingly, most of the children really enjoyed the roman dishes! We ate roman style pizzas which consisted of pitta bread, onion, olives and feta cheese. We also tried a dish called 'Monk's Mush', this is what the monks survived on in Bede's time. The children enjoyed dipping their crusty bread into this! The favourite was definately the juice - grape juice with water, honey, cinnamon and nutmeg! I hope the children all enjoyed learning about these dishes and had a super day in their costumes! Let us know what your favourite was by commenting on the weblog!
Year 3 Trip to Bede's World
Year 3 had a fantastic day out at Bede's world yesterday. All children said they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and returned to school with lots of exciting new facts about Saint Bede. The children were involved in a wide range of activities ranging from dressing up as monks and walking through the monastry as the monks would have in Bede's time to our tour guide locking us all in an Anglo-Saxon refrigerator! A BIG thank you to all year 3 children who received comments throughout the day from staff and visitors at the centre about their immaculate behaviour and superb questions.
Also, a special thank you to all the parents helpers who came along with us despite the cold weather! You were all a great help!

James Kay said, "It was quite interesting because if you just answered a message and it was someone you didn't know, you might end up in trouble".
Tallulah Dixon said, "It was quite interesting and helpful".

Year 3 DT Week
Year 3 had loads of fun during their DT week where they all made part of an Egyptian quilt. The children were involved with cutting, sticking and stitching - I have to say some ended up with more pin pricks than stitches in their quilts but everyone still thoroughly enjoyed taking part! The squares are currently getting stitched together and each class will then have a patchwork quilt - Egyptian style!
Digital Media Week
This week year 3 have been working super hard with all of the new ICT software in school. They have had a fabulous week and produced some fantastic work! The children have used some of our fantastic new 2Simple software, the digital cameras and the Digital Blue Movie Creators. I have to say I was very impressed to see Year 3 having a go at control technology. Well done to everyone in year 3, including Miss Tully and Mrs Simpson, for starting off our digital media weeks with such positive attitudes. 3T - 2Paint a picture
Speaking here is Kieran Costello and Kirsty Wade from 3T. This afternoon we have been using 2Paint a picture on the laptops. Our favourite ones were the spinner and patterns. This is only the start of our digital media week. Miss Tully says we have lots more to come so we are really looking forward to it! We have added some examples of our work.
3T Photo Simple
3T started their Digital Media week with a tough one, but they all managed fantastically! The children had to take a photo of their friend, upload them on to the computer, then try to distort the image as much as possible! The children really enjoyed doing this and found some very funny effects! Some examples are attached!

Year 3 Tennis Challenge
Eight pupils from year 3 represented our school at a tennis tournament held at Lord Lawson school on Thursday 24th January against St. Annes Primary school. Not only were these children well mannered, mature and sensible, but they also showed outstanding sportsmanship. The coach working with these children commented on how good the behaviour had been. Thank you all for acting so responsibly and playing such fair matches.
Oakfield Junior School won the tournament 76 points to 54. Fantastic effort year 3!
It made Miss Tully's day when she noticed the children from Oakfield school shaking hands with each of the children from St. Annes Primary after the tournament. Thank you all again!

Year 3 Christmas Production Photo - at last!
Year 3 Egypt Project
Egypt Project
As you may know, Year 3 are studying Ancient Egypt this term.
Many of the children have shown an interest in this topic, and we would like to take advantage of their enthusiasm by encouraging each child to complete an ‘Egypt Project’ at home.
We feel this will help the children to learn independently and develop research skills. They can focus on areas in which they have a particular interest.
This can be as little or as much work as you like.
The projects will be shared with the class on the last Thursday before Easter
(Thursday 29th March).
Year Three Class Assemblies
The children are busy preparing for our class assemblies this month. 3S will be leading the celebration assembly on Friday 6th October, while 3R will have to wait until the last day of the half term to show off their talents.
The theme for 3S will be 'Healthy Eating', which links with our science topic this term. 3R's assembly will be based on the country they are studying for One World Week, which this year is France. Ooh la lah!
Friends and family are very welcome to watch their child's performance. Curtain up at 9am. See you there!
Pop Go The Peas
Year Three will perform "Pop Go The Peas" at this year's Harvest Festival.
We are enjoying learning the song - especially making the "pop" sound.
