Hannah is the comic strip artist along with me. We work together and really enjoy journalism. We do many articles and design comic strips for our school newspaper. She is a lively member of journalism and everyone really enjoys having her in the club. We work really well together and make a good team. Hannah has enthusiasm with everything we do in journalism. She is a good member of our team. By Molly

Molly is the comic strip artist and so am I. We work together and have loads of fun. We really enjoy creating stories. Last year we designed a comic strip to do with Super Santa as a Christmas special. Molly is a very talented friend and is very clever. We also like to have a laugh from time to time. We all think she is great and I enjoy having her here with me at Journalism club. Molly is a truly great character. By Hannah

Joe is a very kind boy at journalism club, his job is to make jokes and quizzes along with me for the website. He always tries his hardest and is a very fun friend!!!! By Michael

Sam%20Wadey.jpg
Sam is our mathematics genius, hence the reason he is our budget manager. He also helps with articles such as Oakfield’s 40th anniversary by writing about the 1960s. He is good on the computer and could beat a calculator at addition. Without a budget manager like him we would be lost. By Connor

Caitlin.jpg
This is Caitlin and she is our photographer for the Oakey news. Caitlin likes articles about animals and is good at writing about them too. It is her first time in Journalism club and she is enjoying it a lot. Caitlin likes to use Audacity and the cameras when she comes to the club. If you take a look on the school website you will find an Audacity radio news article and a written article belonging to her. By Niamh

Everyone in the club works extremely hard on reporting the news from our school in the form of written articles or radio news.
Coming soon will be video news about Years 3-6 - watch this space!

Oakey News Halloween

Its time to get spooky as Oakfield celebrates Halloween once more. No doubt there will be plenty of kids around the world dressing up and haunting the night on Wednesday the 31st of October. Children will obviously be stuffing their faces as they make their way home after an hour or two. Halloween was originally called Hallows Eve, named by the Celts, who celebrated the ghouls and ghosts coming out for one night. The Christians disliked this so composed a day called All Saints Day. This got rid of all the bad spirits. What will you go dressed up as for trick or treating for Halloween? There will be devils and vampires, witches and cats, pirates and grim reapers, everything you can imagine. So you better get carving those pumpkins and putting on your costumes as the big day comes to a close. Happy Halloween!!!

By Niamh Ryle, 6M

Halloween, A lot of people take part in it but I would hazard a guess that only half of those people know what it’s actually about. Halloween started in the Celtic times and was thought to be first celebrated by the Irish. Halloween is the night before all saints day and it is thought to be a time for evil spirits to play and spread discontent before good sweeps them away, hence the mad axemurderes running around at night(just children don’t worry readers). The fact that children knock on doors originated from evil spirits who would take an offering from a doorstep and if they found nothing they would lay misfortune on that family, hence the words, trick or treat.

By Edward Smith

Halloween is here…. SPOOOKY!!
You better not have an appointment for the dentist on the 1st of November, they will be horrified to see your teeth. Yes it is sweet time, munching and chomping on tons of sweets. If you don’t have a sweet tooth beware, there is no brussel sprouts for breakfast, lunch and dinner it’s chocolate and sweets.[If you’re lucky]
Anyway the real meaning for Halloween is that it is the only day when the spirits rise or… THE DEAD COME BACK TO EARTH AAARRGGHH!!.
The truth scares a lot of people, but not a lot of us know the real reason for it.
Halloween really started off in the Celtic times… way back then. It wasn’t trick or treating though, they ate soul cakes to pray for wealthy relatives. So it was passed on through future generations, when it got to the modern Americans or Christians they re-named it Halloween originally it had been called hallows eve. They made up trick or treating but now not a lot of people do tricks because we usually have bowls of sweets at our doors.
So that is the fun part of Halloween and the real meaning of it.

Take care on Halloween and remember only knock on the doors of people you know.

Journalism Club

I think that journalism club has been one of my favourite clubs throughout my years at Oakfield Junior School because you all get the chance to be as equally involved as each other. You also get a chance to be recongnised throughout the whole school and you also help raise a lot of money for Just For Kids, a Metro Radio charity. By Sam Wadey 6G.

Journalism club is really fun you get to use all different kinds of software packages. It's great!by Sophie Dodds 5B.
