Today, the Mayor of Gateshead came to Oakfield Juniors as part of our study of our local area. We have been working alongside Richard Stevenson from St Mary's Heritage Centre with his plans to walk the boundaries of Gateshead as they used to in the 1800's. Year 5 created two beautiful silk banners to present to Richard and the Mayor on the day of the walk.
We walked with the Mayor on part of the journey with Richard and his group, before waving them off and returning to school. Here are some pictures of our day.
What lovely photographs of a great day!
Thank you so much for all the hard work you put in. We all loved the great reception we got from you when we arrived at the school during the boundary walk. The press coverage was good too!
Your artwork will be hanging in St Mary's throughout local history month in May, and possibly beyond. Everybody who has seen it has remarked on how good it looks.
Well done everyone!
Cheers,
Richard and the St Mary's
