Diary update!

Thursday 23rd April 2009

On Tuesday after the first little chick, Calvin was born and all the children had gone home, Miss Tully and Mrs Davidson noticed one of the other chicks was struggling to get out of the shell. However, with some assistance the chick was delivered safely - this one is named Eddy and is a girl.
On Wednesday morning, the children came into find that 4 more eggs had hatched and the 4 little chicks were happily tweeting in the incubator. 3 of these chicks were fluffed up and ready to be transferred to the brooder. As the day progresssed, more and more eggs began hatching until we had a grand total of 9 healthy chicks in the brooder all fluffed up!
That evening, another chick was having difficulty getting out of the egg so once again, Miss Tully and Mrs Davidson got their hands dirty to save the little chick. They weren't sure how healthy the chick would be but on Thursday morning he was bright and chirpy in the incubator. He was then also transferred to the brooder. This means we now have a total of 10 healthy, fluffy and cute chicks tweeting away in the brooder.
They very quickly learned how to walk, peck seeds and drink water. We have 6 boys and 4 girls.
Today the children named all of the chicks - here are their names: - Calvin, Eddy, Tweety, Dave, Sunny, Tutu, Poachey, Charlie, Alex and Fluffy.

The chicks will be travelling around school next week for the different classes to have a little hold and watch the chicks play.

Let me know what you think of the chicks and if you are in year 3, what you have enjoyed most about the experience so far by commenting on the website.
