Diary of year 3 Chicks!

Tuesday 21st April 2009 AM
The children in year 3 are full of excitement as 12 eggs arrived yesterday and have been set up in an incubator. The eggs were 19 days old when they arrived and should hatch by 21 days - this means most eggs should have hatched by Wednesday or Thursday. We are hoping to get about 6 or 7 chicks from the eggs, any that do not hatch by Friday will be collected by a professional.
The first egg began to crack on Monday afternoon at approximately 4:15pm. This is called the "first pipping" - the eggs should hatch about 24 hours after the first pipping. This morning when they children arrived in school they discovered that 2 more of the eggs have began to crack. This means a total of 3 so far have made their first pipping. The children are hoping that at least one of the eggs will hatch fully by the end of today.
Keep checking our website for updates on the eggs!
