Hollywood Here We Come!!!
On Wednesday 13th February four budding young directors from Year 5 represented Oakfield at the annual Heworth City Learning Centre animation competition. Molly Bowden, Katie Hammond, Joe Donnehue and Owen Barker were up against pupils from Brighton Avenue, St Peters and Dunston Hill for a place in the grand final next term. There task, using ‘I Can Animate’ software was to produce a short film. On arrival they were given a range of material to make props, and 4 plastic figures that were to be used as characters in their film. The group had to work together to write a storyboard, make the setting, operate the camera, download stills and edit their film, which was given the title ‘Boogie Knights.’
After a day of hard graft and a 43 second film they were rightly proud of, the four young Steven Spielberg’s held their breath as the judges watched all films, looked at storyboards and marked workmanship. After 20 minutes, (during which they all aged with worry!), we were called back in, and, in great excitement and nervous tension, sat waiting for the envelope to reveal………………….Oakfield as winners!!!! (Cue celebrations). In recognition for all their hard work, they won a new camcorder for school and a place in the grand final. Well done to all four, we wish you well, and watch out Hollywood, here we come!!!!
