Year 5’s Roar to Victory

The Year 5 Football team got their season off to a perfect start last night at Gateshead Stadium. The team took part in the first round of the Felling FA knockout cup on the new artificial pitches, a huge playing surface for 7-a-side football. The competition involved 20 teams split up into 4 groups of 5 with only the winning team from each group progressing to the final. Our year 5’s were drawn alongside Falla Park, Windy Nook, Kells Lane and St Johns.

In all four games the team played some superb football; passing, controlling, making space for themselves and working for each other. Because of this all games seemed to be played largely within the opponent’s halves. This led to a lot of chances being created, and, with a bit of luck (and help from an opposing goalkeeper) we managed to score in all four games. At the other end our defence and goalkeeper managed to keep any danger at bay and were rewarded with four clean sheets. This was no more than they deserved.
