Unbeaten..........but footballers settle for second

After coming through the group stages unbeaten, the Year 6 football team took their place in the Felling FA 7 a side knockout competition. Standing in the way of glory were teams from Roman Road, Harlow Green and Windy Nook. In a round robin competition all schools played each other, with the winners not only being Gateshead champions, but also going on to the Durham FA stage of the national competition.
In the first game against Windy Nook Oakfield dominated. Chance after chance came and went until at last, with time running out a Louis Tiplady popped up with a deserved winner.
The next two games against Roman Road and Harlow Green were tight with few chances. In both, despite 110% effort, neither team were able to break through and the games ended 0-0.
Final league table;

Harlow Green - 7 pts
Oakfield - 5 pts
Roman Road - 4 pts
Windy Nook - 0 pts

In the end the defence stuck to their task but a lack of goals cost us the championship. Still a good night awaits at the presentations next July when medals all round are in order!!
